I think your dismissal of technological unemployment is more than a little glib. Nobody aspires to be a men’s room attendant But someone with such a job will fight for it if the alternative is starvation. There generally is a great in difference towards the unemployed at this point, blaming the victim. A 20 something or a thirtysomething can change careers easily. But even as life expectancy’s and career spans can increase, Many people are aging out of their jobs. A professional who loses his job in his mid-50s might never work field again, or do so at a far lower wage.
I am all for automation and don’t begrudge losing bad jobs But we need to talk about wealth inequality before we can greet automation as an unlimited good thing. Look up Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s second Bill of Rights.
