I know how to sell asteroid-steading to the kids. One word: Minecraft. Its exactly the same concept. Dig a hole, find resources, build a shelter, make it comfortable, make it bigger and better and cooler than everyone else. the only difference is that it’s in space, and that just makes it cooler.

Hi guys great show as always. I think you all need to read the novel Rendezvous With Rama by Arthur. C. Clark. It’s about the discovery of a huge asteroid that enters our solar system and contains an entire eco system and city inside it built by some long gone alien race. It also deals with the social ramifications and politics of the human race being scattered across several planets. It’s almost exactly what you guys were talking about! It’s not long enough and skips over some topics a bit too quickly but it’s a nice little book.

I loved Rendezvous (and the sequels). I think an even more out there yet maybe spot-on book is Eon by Greg Bear.

We’ve had the ability to make cars drive themselves for a while. One of the car companies said the reason they don’t make them is that people like driving.

I was re-listening to this awesome episode (Bret totally rocked this one), and it made me remember something. I have a recommendation for YOU guys, Cowboy Bebop, specifically episode 19 if you can find it(cameo appearance by a certain spacecraft).
It’s set in a near future, inner solar system society after a massive disaster has mostly destroyed Earth’s ecosystem. It’s about a handful of hard luck bounty hunters looking to strike it rich and/or just get by. The series touches on a bunch of interesting subjects, like genetic engineering, abandoned AI, post-physicalism, ect.
Yes, it is anime, but it’s heavily influenced by western culture and all the episodes have a self contained plot. Even if you don’t like most anime series, I guarantee you guys will dig this one.
