The sun does this too on a smaller scale. So the warp drive creates enough gravity to create a bubble around the ship, but the ship itself maintains its dependence on the laws of physics. it's the bubble itself that defies Einstein's laws. Then the engines can "push" it way past the speed of light, thereby getting around the Einstien limit that says nothing with any mass can travel at the speed of light. Quite ingenious...make the ship weight nothing, you can do whatever you like and thumb your nose at physics...
